japanese mash

Hello! I'm originally from Cardiff in Wales but am currently living in Hagi-shi, Japan. I'm an Assistant Language Teacher on the Jet programme and have set up this blog to act as a diary of my time here and also to let friends know what I'm up to (I hate group emails as much as the next person!). Enjoy..... or be bored.

Sightseeing in Shimane

Making the most of our time in Shimane, we headed for some of the most exciting attractions on offer - a lighthouse at Hino-Misaki and the Nima Sand Museum, Hamada beach and then the five storey pagoda in Yamaguchi City. The weather was beautiful and we had a relaxing day driving down the coast.

Outside the sand museum we stumbled across the biggest slide in the history of man!! It was huge!! but unfortunately not as fun as it looks. The Nima Sand Museum boasts the world's largest sand timer. At 5m long it takes exactly a whole year for every grain of sand to drop. On December 31st at midnight the timer is flipped. Stirling could not control himself with the fine array of sand timers.

Shimane Soccer Tournament

We weren't the best on the pitch but we definitely brought the party (in the form of Tom Smith's dancing) He's a wild one.

This one's for you Skye

School lunch at elementary school. A lot of people complain about it but my school usually serves up pretty decent meals - until today. Dried fish. head, eyes and all. It was disgusting. Oneof the teachers came up to me and saw that I was slow at eating it. She assumed that I was finding it difficult to eat with chopsticks. Yeah, that's it. eurgggggh!

2006 Yamaguchi Gurning Championships

I may not have any contenders for the speech contest but I've most certainly got a good chance with the Gurners that I have been training.
